Hint on sending money to Russia:

Don't send money to anyone in Russia unless you know the person and have grounds to believe you are not being scammed. This note of caution particularly applies to men in their 50s who are often target of the Russian bride scam. Men are manipulated into loosing their head and then are asked for airplane ticket money. When we old losers hear "just send me $1000 and I'll be in your arms tomorrow" from a beautiful 25 year we lose our normal caution and skepticism. If the offer is too good to be true it probably is. Don't rush. If in doubt have me do a situation assessment and a quick identity check.

On a positive note, I am yet to hear of scam in the accommodation industry. A reasonable amount can to hold an apartment for you if the operator appears to be legitimate and established (good ranking, verifiable contact details, links and recommendations from third parties)
